  • 01:08pm - Depart parking area at Shackleford Creek Trailhead
  • 02:22pm - Reach junction for Campbell/Log Lake Loop
  • 02:58pm - Arrive at Campbell Lake for late lunch and nap
  • 04:15pm - Depart Campbell Lake - Junction to Log Lake
  • 05:01pm - Arrive at Cliff Lake

Pines, bushes, creeks and grit, a familiar scenery that reminded us of our Trinity Alps backpacking trip a week ago.

Same dry weather at noon.

After noticing Campbell Lake was a nice but busy camping spot, we changed out mind about spending the night there and planned to try our luck with Cliff Lake.

The way to Cliff Lake doesn’t seem long on the map, but it has some steep sections. In contrast to the green, popular Campbell Lake, Cliff Lake seemed bleak and quiet. That night we were pretty much the only ones camping there.

Near our campsite was a rapid, cold stream flowing into the lake.
