  • 07:59am - Breakfast break (stayed longer than actually needed because of the lovely lake view)
  • 08:48am - Move on
  • 10:20am - Summit Mt. Tallac
  • 12:21pm - Hike down
  • 02:45pm - Back to the parking

Mt. Tallac is known as one of the most popular trails in the Tahoe region and since it was busy summer weekend, we started the hike early in the morning with the goal of avoiding big crowd. To our surprise, we soon encountered a group of young people who were already ready to go back home. They had started between 4am-ish to catch the sunrise!

Armstrong Pass -> Star Lake

Trip log:

  • 08:31am - Start out from spring before Armstrong Pass
  • 10:15am - Freel Peak Summit Junction
  • 09:48am - Highway 89
  • 10:19am - Depart Highway 89/Big Meadow parking lot
  • 11:15am - Summit Freel Peak - 10,881 ft.
  • 01:41am - After nap on the summit, depart Freel Peak.
  • 02:15am - Back on the TRT
  • 02:41pm - Find a nice campsite next to a stream about 1 mile before Star Lake.

  • 09:36am - Scott Lake Junction
  • 09:48am - Highway 89
  • 10:19am - Depart Highway 89/Big Meadow parking lot
  • 02:06pm - Saxon Creek junction
  • 04:45pm - Find our campsite for the night above a spring

03:30pm - Depart Shower Lake

04:23pm - Tahoe Rim Trail/Pacific Crest Trail junction

05:49pm - Arrive at Round Lake and setup camp
